Eating Healthier With Pumpkin, Salmon and Flaxseed

I'm sure you've heard that a lot of serious health conditions that can be avoided by eating healthy.

Maybe you have one of these conditions but are finding it very hard to make the necessary changes. Remember the old saying "Every long journey begins with the first step?" Well, making lifestyle changes is a journey that can begin with one step.

An excellent place to take that first "step" is in your diet, by making some subtle replacements.
For example, you know you need more vegetables in your diet, but you don't really like vegetables so... SNEAK the vegetables in. My favorite, of course, is pumpkin.

Here are 5 tips for adding pumpkin into your food without too much pain.

1. Add pumpkin puree into your brownie mix. Simply substitute some of the liquid for pumpkin puree, and voila - a more healthy brownie! (it actually tastes better - more moist)

2. Add a couple tablespoons of pumpkin puree into your oatmeal, for a rich, creamy and HEALTHY addition.

3. Add Pumpkin Butter to your plain yogurt. It is amazing at how rich it makes the yogurt taste, and all that sort bitter tang of plain yogurt is gone.

4. Add Pureed Pumpkin to your waffle, pancake or muffin mixes. My kids rave MORE about the waffles or pancakes that I have slipped pumpkin into than they do over plain ones.

5. Add 1 cup (or more depending on the amount your making) of Pumpkin Puree into any stew mix or spaghetti sauce. It adds thickness but the flavor is hidden by all the other flavors. NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW!

Here are some other healthy tips for making your diet a bit healthier:

1. Replace fatty and/or red meats with fish, such as Salmon which is high in Omega 3 fatty acids.

2. Sprinkle flax seeds on your cereal or into a smoothie. Flaxseed is also full of Omega 3 and they also contain phytoestrogens and fiber.

3. Replace white bread with wheat bread and if you're a baker, substitute 1/4 of your white flour with wheat flour in your recipes.

I have found that these simple steps have helped me on my journey to better eating and I hope they help you too.
